Jess Cherrett
Naturopath
I've been a plant person as long as I can remember.
Making potions and medicine from garden plants was a feature of my childhood, as was my obsession with stories. Over time, they wove closer together for me: plants became friends when I learnt their stories and I sought out works that had plants as a star feature, feeling they made the story that much better.
I was 14 when I decided I wanted to use plants to heal people. That idea has guided all that has followed. From training as a Naturopath, to running the local community Apothecary. While I may go off on side quests here and there I always have come back home to the plants.
My love of story has never faded either, and my understanding of how stories impact us has continued to develop. I have become a storyteller, both personally and professionally, because I find them one of the most holistic ways of communicating.
These days I weave storytelling in with my work as a Naturopath, and in the workshops I run, to provide a more universal approach to healing and healthcare.
In the intervening years since I decided my path, as a result of a growing understanding of health and deeper relationships with this place we humans call home, my philosophy has changed a little bit. If I were to talk with my 14 year old self I would tell her I had re-framed her guiding statement.
"I work with plants to help people heal."
