Neurodivergent Support Group

This group is now full.

If you’d like to go on the waitlist and/or sign up to receive further information about future events, please register your interest below. We hope to secure funding to extend & expand this program and registering your interest will help us to secure further neurodiversity support for the Huon Valley.

The Healing Space is excited to have secured funding for a 3-month pilot of a neurodivergent peer support group for adults in the Cygnet region.

Our practitioners have identified a need in the local community to support neurodivergent adults who may be struggling with feelings of isolation and difference. This can be exacerbated by living rurally, with limited access to services. This group will meet for three monthly sessions and will offer the opportunity for peer-to-peer support to share and connect with others who may be facing the same issues and concerns. This group aims to provide a safe space for social connections and sharing experiences. The pilot will run once a month from Aug- Oct 2024, with exact dates to be advised.

If this pilot is successful, the program will be funded for a further 9 months; and if you choose to take part in this group, your voluntary feedback will help support this process.

What the Group Is

This group is open to both formally diagnosed and self-identified neurodivergent adults. It is a professionally facilitated space; however we will not be able to provide specialist neurodivergent advice such as diagnosis, treatment & medical advice. This group is designed for peer-to-peer support, sharing, and creating social connections within the community for people who are feeling isolated due to their symptoms - or simply want to connect with people who share similar experiences.

What the Group is not

This group is not a neurodivergent-specific resource group. Specifics of your diagnoses, medications and treatment will not be discussed within the group. It is also not designed for crisis mental health support, or in situations where more intensive interventions are required. While we recognise that there is also a need to support other groups in the community (e.g.parents of neurodivergent children, and those children themselves), this group is specifically for adults (18+) who identify or have been diagnosed as neurodivergent. Please send your expression of interest for other kinds of groups to us via the sign up page.

What are the next steps?

Once you have registered your interest in joining the group, we will contact you with further information and meeting dates. If we are oversubscribed, we will be in contact to determine who is most suitable for the group and refer others to further resources if necessary.

We will try and be as neurodivergent-friendly as possible and offer you the chance to connect via whatever method is most comfortable to you. You’ll get the chance to come and meet Christina (who is pursuing an ADHD diagnoses) prior to the first meeting - she will be administrating the program and can show you around the space ahead of time to help combat any social anxiety you may feel about attending.
